Bills & Insurance

If you have health insurance from any of the following providers/plans, you can give your insurance details at registration, and the hospital will bill them directly: ·         Federal – National Defence, RCMP ·         Interim Federal Health Program for refugees ·         Workplace Compensation Board ·         University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) for students ·         A Canadian province other than Ontario If you are an Ontario resident without OHIP coverage or are visiting from another country, you will need to pay directly to the hospital for the services you have received such as: ·         Emergency visit, inpatient stays, or clinic visits ·         Physician fees, lab tests, diagnostic imaging ·         Childbirth and newborn care ·         Medical devices ·         Ambulance services If you have private insurance from a Canadian company, this can be provided to the hospital at the time of registration, and the hospital can bill them directly for your care.  If your insurance is from outside of Canada, you are required to pay for your visit upfront and then submit the cost to your insurance provider yourself. Insured Residents of Canada: The cost of a standard ward bed (three-four-bed room) is covered by a provincial health plan such as OHIP. Private or semi-private accommodation is not covered.  If upon admission you choose a semi-private or private room, the hospital will invoice your supplementary insurance company directly for reimbursement based on your authorization on the Preferred Accommodation Request Form and Billing Consent. It is your responsibility to know the extent of insurance benefits available. Should the insurance company reject all or part of the charges, you are responsible for payment of the account. If you are placed in a private room for infection control measures, you will not be billed for the difference if you have standard coverage. Uninsured/Non Residents of Canada: You will be charged for the hospital's services and specific information related to your authorization on the Non-OHIP Guarantee of Account.

You will be required to pay a deposit of $12,500 for labour and childbirth.  This deposit is for your medical needs at the hospital such as attendance at labour and delivery, lab tests, medications, room accommodation during your stay and care for your baby.  The deposit covers the cost of an uncomplicated 2 day hospital stay for you and your baby.  A bill will be sent after discharge.  If your stay is longer than 2 days, you can expect to pay an additional $3,750 per day for yourself and an additional $2,750 per day for your baby.    You will receive a statement of account from the hospital at your discharge; any unused deposit amounts will be refunded to you.  You will also get a statement regarding the separate physician fees from their office.  Physician fees:  These are not included in hospital fees and will be billed and paid separately.  The following care providers will collect fees separately.       Obstetrician:   You will be required to pay a flat fee at the time of your prenatal visit.  This will cover all prenatal clinic visits as well as OB care during your delivery and hospital stay.  There will not be any reimbursements from this fee.    Anesthesiologist fee:  You will be required to pay a deposit to cover anesthesia services for both epidural and one of either an urgent C-section or dilatation and curettage (D&C).  If a C-section or D&C is not preformed, you will be refunded.  Call accounts receivable during office hours (8 am – 4 pm, Monday – Friday) at 519-843-2010 ext. 47113 to arrange payment of the hospital deposit.  This needs to be completed prior to attending the hospital for delivery.

If your physician determines that you no longer require acute care treatment at the hospital and are awaiting long-term or complex continuing care, you will be charged the same daily rate applicable for a standard ward in a long-term/complex continuing care facility.

Many supplementary insurances do NOT cover preferred accommodation for stays related to Workplace Safety and Insurance Board claims. *Please have your claim number with you for the registration clerk.
