Preparing for Surgery at Groves
Day of Procedure:
-
Plan to have a support person to drop you off at the hospital registration desk (located off of the main entrance)
-
Here you will be greeted by a staff member who will screen you for COVID-19 and provide you with a mask that you must wear
-
Bring minimal belongings and leave valuables at home
-
Please have available the name and phone number of the caregiver picking you up after your surgery/procedure - this person must be readily available to pick you up after being called (within a half-hour)
-
Please note you will be asked COVID-19 screening questions by your physician office before your appointment and the day you arrive for your appointment
Visitors:
In order to ensure the safety of our patients and staff, there are no visitors allowed in the Operating Rooms or Recovery Rooms. Special exceptions are made for children and those who require special support. This is an important precaution to ensure the safety of all of our patients and staff.
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit
Endoscopy is a nonsurgical procedure used to examine a person’s digestive tract. It helps doctors evaluate and diagnose digestive diseases, take a biopsy (removal of tissue), remove polyps (growth of tissue) and treat some digestive tract problems. Endoscopists use an endoscope, which is a flexible tube with a light and camera, to visually examine your digestive system.
At Groves Memorial Community Hospital, we perform:
-
Gastroscopy: upper endoscopy to examine the upper digestive tract including the throat, esophagus, and stomach
-
Flexible Sigmoidoscopy: endoscope is passed through the rectum to examine the lower part of the large intestine
-
Colonoscopy: endoscope is passed through the rectum to examine the entire colon/large intestine
